Portrait Session with Laura

Today was such a gorgeous day to be out and about in Toronto. I headed down to Parkdale and photographed my friend Laura at her apartment. Laura's such a doll - and a great model with those gorgeous blue eyes!

Now Offering Albums!

I am pleased to announce that I am now offering albums as an additional service to my wedding photography. The albums are produced by a company called Asuka and are gorgeous coffee table style books. They are square format - either 10"x 10", 8"x 8" or 5"x 5" - and can be hard or soft cover. The EX series comes with a beautiful red slipcover. You choose the photographs for the album and I will design the layouts. The following photographs are from my sample album of Erin & Mark's wedding that took place this past summer. Please contact me if you have any questions about these books.

My Sister Abby

This weekend my sister Abby and I visited my Mom who lives in the country just north of Brighton, Ontario. My sister is pregnant and due in July. I am doing my best to take advantage of her by photographing her as much as possible! Here are a few of my favourites from Saturday.

Chris Buck

One of my favourite photographers, Chris Buck, is giving a lecture tonight at Ryerson University. He is a Ryerson graduate who moved to New York in the '90's to photograph the likes of Donald Trump, Ewan McGregor, Chuck D, along with many other fabulous celebrities and musicians. I like his approach to photographing people. I like how he throws you for a loop when you see one of his images of your favourite celebrity; although they seem to be true portrayals of the subjects, there is always something a little "off" in his portraits. Last time that I heard him speak was a couple of years ago during CONTACT and he came out on stage wearing big red clown shoes. It was amazing. He has a great attitude when approaching photographing all of Hollywood's best and never does he let it get to the good of him; he always remains a laidback, honest and true guy and I completely respect that. There is an article in today's Globe & Mail about him.

GOYA

A group of photographers from a forum that I participate in started a new thing a few weeks ago called GOYA. It stands for Get Off Your Arse. It stems from the fact that as working photographers we often forget the reason that we became photographers and we often forget to take photographs for no other reason than for ourselves. Every week these photographers go out and take photos that are unrelated to any other photography that they are currently working on. The goal is to make some images that you would like to hang on your walls. Here is my first attempt at GOYA. On Sunday I wandered the alleys of Queen West to photograph the grime and graffiti. I shot a roll of 35mm slide film and cross-processed it.

Tin Bangs

I finally got a chance to finish the post-production on the photos of Tin Bangs that I took in the studio way back in January. I love how the final photographs look all together.

A Matter of Focus

Lately I have been experimenting with the focus of my photographs. I am trying to take more photographs for me: photographs that I am drawn to and photographs that I would like to hang on my walls. I have been playing with blurring the focus within the camera. I like the shapes and colours that are created from doing so. These images are ones that I took while in the Dominican Republic in January.
